Microfiber Sample Preparation

The analysis of microscopic samples often requires challenging sample preparation steps due to the small sample size of the objectives under investigation. By equipping the FT-MTA03 Micromechanical Testing and Assembly System with FT-G series microgrippers, microscopic objects can be handled.

The image sequence illustrates the sample preparation of a microfiber for micromechanical testing. First, a single fiber is extracted from a larger fiber bundle. Then, the fiber is dipped into a droplet of UV curable glue on one end and subsequently attached to the border of a glass slide. This method allows for the attachment of the FT-S Microforce Sensing Probe on the other side of the sample for tensile testing.
